up at the peak(hong kong’s most visited attraction, one can see an amazing view of the increidble skyscrapers and hong kong scenery/ panorama from one of hong kong’s tallest points. what i think sometimes is that people get carried away with the view they are given, and do not appreaciate the rest there is to offer, like this amazing path there is (in the photo) where you walk around the area and can even descend down to the city by foot (it’s actually a relatively short walk).

one of my favorite airports in the world: hong kong international. it was expanded recently (a few years back) with terminal two designed by rmjm architects, affering this interesting interior.

last i remember is that the world famous lippo building in hong kong wasn’t always lippo. it was acquired in the late 80s from a huge australian land developing company that dissolved from fraud. these iconic towers, are pretty simbolic and literal as they represent koala trees. the obtruding windows represent koalas and the sense of warmth and security wit the solid gesture of them wrapping around the towers.

as dense as hong kong is, it is remarkable how previous planning kept approximately 70% of hong kong undeveloped for preservation. highest in density, hong kong still manages to grow somewhat responsibly in comparison to other competing cities. they are very fortunate to be able to have top level skyscrapers and international architecture landmarks complemented by foliage and landscaping in such a hectic environment.

it’s funny how everything in life is relative through scales. from an individual to a group, from communities to countries, or any other relationship groups: buildings in the case of this photo. this symbol is like a trophy, the world’s seventh tallest building. with only eleven hundred sq kms (four hundred twenty sq mi) it is populated by seven million inhabitants. surprisingly, this dense evironment provides hongkongers with a eightyone point six year life expectancy (sixth highest in the world). these are the details and facts that are proof of healthy and progressive planning. this building is the international finance center, tower two.

bicycle popularity has been increasing exponentially. the production of these is up to fifty million a year and only in china there are currently more than four hundred million bicycles. the only detail here is that if fifty percent of the car rides in the u.s. are less than two miles, how come only one percent of these rides are made in bicycle? food for thought.. in holland this percentage ranges around the thirties.

one of my favorite photos. if i must explain, i would express this street as a link. this simple street links to other streets, creating a network of flow and comunication, above and beneath. the sewers underneath weave within another network of piping and electric ducts that relate to the subway lines, where as passing cars above splash on the remaining water that has flown from higher altitudes back down into the sewer. this street is crucial to the organism it forms part of. much to ponder after a rainy day in hong kong, mid july 2007.

there’s a little park in hong kong, it’s a bird park. there are litterally hundreds and thousands of birds. they sell them show them off or just take them there to compliment the environment. it is quite an impressive thing to hear them all and see their owner’s reactions. i got yelled at more than once for taking photos here.

i recently read that squirrels are incredibly intelligent. the huge three-dimensional world they live in requires them to have a remarkable spatial memory. their mental map stores the location of ten thousand different nuts that they hide to feed themselves throughout the year. their brain is also capable of growing when needed, in order to adapt to more information storage demand. truely interesting and not related to this cocunut loving thai squirrel. december 2004
