these filtered selections of work are the ones with flaws. from the detailed eye and standards of the artist, these scraps will not be worth much, which i admire so much in a way. standards, where the value of craft and detail is emphasized is what allows us to appreciate a superior product. however, on the other hand it makes us more superficial and at the same time we loose more energy and waste efforts away. once again, where do we draw the line?

this shot was taken inside the bahrain national museum in manama. this sample of islamic calligraphy (commonly known as arabic) was handwritten from an old script, but i’m not even sure what it means or where it’s from. however, i do enjoy the artistic qualities of its elegant and simplistic strokes. these writings are oftern considered as the most significant example of islamic art as the arabic script was the means to espress the qu’ran.

taken from the desk of an artist in a bahraini cultural center. it was like a sanctuary for rich historical and cultural works carried on through legacies through painting, sculture, music, and many other crafty skills like weaving in different mediums. the large variety of techniques used was art in itself, plus being able to observe the most traditional tools in the other side of the world just makes it so much better(?). life is odd as such.
happy birthday nano.

if you look straight into the center of this small island you see a green tower. i was taking this photo on the same exact structure, but decorated with red lights. just like these towers, the island shares the same exact infrastructure which is duplicated by a mirror line which marks the official border between saudi arabia and bahrain. and right in the middle, you can eat at mcdonalds. really.

there is so much honesty in texture. just by feeling the connection within different types of textures, one can relate these in stories relevant to one’s personal knowledge. in this photo, the bahraini artist’s glasses portray the hard work and effort enriched with the grain of the paper and its arabic calculations.

according to the gps we were driving on water, like a kilometer beyond shore. from what i remember, there was still more land to drive on too. this was product of the middle eastern boom, where development sky-rocketed over just a few years. impressive indeed, but it only makes m wonder how the situation in right now. given its size, i still saw bahrain’s development a little more stable.

this detail was taken from a carved wooden door, which belonged to one of king isa’s summer estates (if i remember correctly). i am always humbled by woodworks and craft. there is so much talent and heart, and in combination with the self honesty and versatility that wood carries.. works like these inspire me so much. besides the cuts and carvings there is also much truth within the wood grain and the dust it collects. bahrain, 2007
