through blood and sweat, everyone works in their own way to survive and succeed. happy international worker’s day.

costa rica, “the rich coast” named upon columbus’ arrival on the atlantic shores prove that some are not so rich any more, in human values that is. who can we blame but ourselves as our society and earth becomes more sophisticated by the second? just last week, a green light for gold mining was given by the court, allowing the destruction of hectares of prestine forests and abuse and contamination of essential resources. what do they care anyway, right? it’s not like they have great grandchildren to look after..

on a calm and breezy afternoon, the mayoreo market in avenida 10 is quite and considerably deserted. located as a secondary entrance to the downtown core from west to east, its neighboring municipality makes this site a prominent landmark; and the other way around of course. i find a mission in me to explore such public spaces, that are not yet public enough; capture them and promote them.

there was an earthquake just a few kilometers from home. even though i wasn’t really there i was told that this 4.8 magnitude quake felt like a 6 or 7, due to its proximity. as earthquakes in chile continue, it becomes more difficult to understand and accept this phenomenon. all there is to do is to remain calm, if one is in the position to collaborate and help in anyway, give an extra hand.

i had always been sure of how greed and selfishness is part of our nature. it isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, but just a reality. well, i might be going out of line, but it all depends on how you see things. this world moves on a cycle of ‘giving’, where this tree takes nutrients from the earth to give back, however its strong and wise roots dig deep for more as its branches extend and reach high soaking up the sun from anything underneath. the cycle goes on from trees to plants, humans to insects, and so on.

you can easily notice this was in the shade. i could only admire the reflection from the afternoon rays into the cool shade bouncing under the wavy petals. from the cold concrete surrounding i couldn’t help but dram my attention into the warmth the sunflower brought to this cozy garden.
happy birthday sumie!

once a very wise architecture professor told a class i was attending “everything that is built to move, will eventually stop moving”. i felt enlightened for some reason. maybe it was a little late for me or i had just never really put thought into that. but this moment just lead me to think a lot about progress and the process in which everything is created and destroyed, directly and indirectly. and the only dictionary where you can decipher this: time.
these concrete pieces used to be part of some picnic tables in a relatively recent park inside a small residential area.

happy birthday mariana!
